RSIS Aids NOAA Group’s Minority Recruitment Effort 10/12/2006
RSIS is part of a consortium selected to find ways to increase the involvement of minority students in masters’ and doctoral programs in the field of remote sensing. RSIS is being represented by Dr. Shi-Keng Yang, Program Manager for the RSIS contract at NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center in Camp Springs, Md.
The consortium will work with a grant from the Center for Remote Sensing Science and Technology (CREST), a part of NOAA. RSIS joins Raytheon as the only two private sector members of the consortium, whose other members are NOAA agencies.“Our purpose is to strengthen ties with selected universities with graduate courses in environmental remote sensing, and provide student internships, mentoring and other ways to encourage careers in the field,” Yang said.
Used in climate prediction, remote sensing is the science of processing and interpreting measurements from satellites and aircraft.
