National Weather Service Chooses RSIS
For $37 million Scientific Services Contract

McLean, Va., Nov. 1 -- RS Information Systems, Inc. (RSIS) has been awarded a $37.2 million contract to provide scientific analysis and development for the Climate Prediction Center (CPC), the National Weather Service agency with medium- and long-range climate forecasting capabilities used worldwide.
"The Climate Prediction Center is in the forefront of turning scientific analysis into practical tools for developing climate predictions," said Rodney P. Hunt, RSIS president and CEO. "The center is a national asset and we're delighted to be an integral part of its important mission."
Hunt said RSIS' role includes developing and testing climate and statistical models, diagnostic analyses of states of climate such as El Nino, developing and maintaining web applications, assessing stratospheric ozone, developing and maintaining the African Famine Early Warning System and training Third World meteorological agencies.
The RSIS support is provided by a 30-person team of meteorologists, ocean scientists and computer analysts at the CPC in Camp Springs, Md.
RSIS is ranked by Washington Technology as the 35th largest federal contractor of technology services nationwide. The firm delivers telecommunications, information assurance, systems engineering, information technology and scientific support on nearly 100 contracts with civilian and defense agencies. This includes technological and scientific support to several key elements of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s environmental observation infrastructure. A privately-held, minority-owned firm, RSIS recorded $363 million in revenue in 2005.
